The name Red Coral comes from a great-uncle who lives in Denver, Colorado. His family opened a Chinese restaurant around 40 years ago in Denver and called it Red Coral. The restaurant was a success right from the start. Judy thought, “Well, let’s use the same name in Canada!” Now retired, our great-uncle says happily, “The name still lives on!”
Our first retail location was in the St. Jacobs Farmers Market. We started with 1 booth selling women’s accessories. Some of my fondest memories include having a classic St. Jacobs breakfast: a still-warm Stone Crock Morning Glory muffin washed down with a cold glass of boysenberry juice!
The logo, is actually Judy’s handwriting.
We almost never sold bottoms in our collections. Back in the day, Judy thought we should sell leggings to pair with all our tops, but we all disagreed, as we wanted to focus on tops. Still, Judy decided to cut the simplest black legging. Fourteen years later, let’s just say we’re glad she didn’t listen to us! 3574 our famous Red Coral legging.
Our first warehouse was technically in the basement of our family home. Click here to read how Red Coral began its business.
Once upon a time, we had 3 sets of mother-daughter staff working at Red Coral. (All sets at the same time too!)
Our most loyal staff member has been with Red Coral for nearly 23 years…and she continues to strut her style with us at the downtown St. Jacobs’s location.
The number one Red Coral best-selling clothing item of ALL TIME is…drum roll please… our vest, 312-0108.
The furthest destination we’ve had to ship Red Coral product to, was a boutique in Tel Aviv, Israel.
We’ve met a few celebrities in our stores! One of the most memorable celebrities we met was one of the lead characters from The Hunger Games. He was shopping with his wife and we thought he looked so familiar, but we didn’t realize who he was until he handed his credit card to pay for his wife’s Red Coral’s treasures!
