Stuck inside on a rainy day with the kids? It can get pricey to bring them to the movies or other indoor activities and it is so easy to come up with creative ideas for what to do at home. Here we’ve rounded up a few simple ideas that might just help you out the next time you’re looking for something to do with the kids.
One of my absolute favourite things to do with my mother as a child was to make homemade playdough. It’s easy to make with a few simple ingredients (so the kids can help make it!) and can keep kids entertained for hours. Simply Google “Homemade Playdough” for tons of recipes!
Choose an easy recipe on pinterest or in your favourite cookbook and bake together! You can then enjoy the treat together after dinner and they will be so proud of what they helped make.
With just a few pillows, chairs and blankets you can build a fortress of fun for the kids! They can get comfortable, bring their favourite toys into the fort and you can sit down and watch your favourite movie together.
Children love a good craft project! You can find easy to read ones on Pinterest and you can have fun recreating it with your child. Seasonal ones are always fun because you can make things like Christmas ornaments, Halloween masks, Easter eggs, and so much more. Printable colouring pages are also another great option.
Instead of giving them an Ipad game to play by themselves, help them pick out a board game that they will be excited about and that you can play with them. You can find games at second hand stores that won’t set you back by much at all.
Creating a dress-up trunk for your kids is a great way to let their imagination run free and unleash their creativity. Add in a few pieces you no longer wear anymore and/or some inexpensive but unique pieces that you find at second hand stores. The more unique the clothing is, the more fun it is to play with! When I was little we had a big trunk filled with items like suspenders, faux fur coats, and crazy dresses. You’ll be surprised by how much your kids will love it! They can even put on a little theatre show after dressing up.
