Ah, the holidays. Time for cold weather, good company, and great food! If you’re anything like me then you’d love to be like Aunt Debbie from out of town that made her famous apple pie from scratch and somehow kept it warm – but instead it’s a mad dash of emptying out cupboards at 11pm the night before.
So, what’s the secret, Aunt Debbie? Time management and organization? No, thanks! Here’s a list of my favourite potluck cheats, and don’t worry, we won’t tell anyone your secret either.
Nonna’s Meatballs
Toss everything in a slow cooker, and turn it on med/high. Add your ketchup, barbecue sauce, a little Sriracha…no need to measure! Just taste it as you go to make sure it isn’t too spicy. I use about 1.5 cups of sauce (depending on how many meatballs are in there), then add water to cover. Remember, the smaller the meatballs the faster they cook! The sauce will reduce and thicken, and when heated through turn to low and keep warm. Your guests will swear you spent hours making it!
Going as a guest? Take the whole slow cooker with you, and finish “cooking” at the event!
